Method

How data is collected, how indicators are computed and where the limits lie.

Collection

Source → raw snapshot with a checksum → draft statement → human confirmation → publication. Scrapers do not write to the registry directly: otherwise a parser error would be indistinguishable from a fact.

The snapshot is always stored, including when parsing failed. Otherwise a change in the source cannot be told apart from a broken parser.

Disappearing records

If a record vanishes from its source, status moves to "unknown" but never automatically to "revoked". Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence: the page may have been redesigned or moved.

Confidence

Certificate status, mevushal and kosher for Passover are never published automatically at any confidence level. These fields are always confirmed by a person.

Agricultural indicators

Shmita and orla are computed from the lot's inputs: vintage, country where the grapes were grown, planting year. The result carries a method version and the list of inputs used.

Cases requiring a rabbinic ruling are flagged separately and are not resolved by computation. The indicator is informational and does not replace consulting your rav.

Ingredients

Recorded as declared by the producer on the label or the electronic label, matched against a controlled vocabulary. Animal-derived, dairy and allergen flags come from that vocabulary, not from inference.
