Mendoza produces most of Argentina's wine. Vineyards lie between about 800 and 1,500 metres and higher, in a dry climate where irrigation with meltwater from the Andes makes viticulture possible, much as it does in the Negev.
Strong sunlight and cold nights give Malbec deep colour and fresh acidity. The Uco Valley, at the highest altitudes, has become the centre of quality production.
Kosher Malbec has a recognised place in the market: Flechas de los Andes, the Uco Valley estate linked to the Edmond de Rothschild group, makes a kosher Gran Malbec.
